NW-SCC OFFERS CAREER READY CERTIFICATION

Muscle Shoals, Ala. & Phil Campbell, Ala.  - Northwest-Shoals Community
College (NW-SCC) offers Career Readiness Certification (CRC) testing on both
the Muscle Shoals and the Phil Campbell campuses. 

Approximately 130 NW-SCC students completing career technical and
occupational programs have been awarded Alabama Career Readiness
Certificates.  The CRC measures student skill levels in three area: reading
for information, locating information and applied math. Each student
received gold, silver or bronze CRC based on scores received using the
WorkKeys assessment test. The WorkKeys assessment is used to measures
workplace skills. 

Career Ready Alabama is a job skill assessment system awarding Career
Readiness Certificates which measure and verify skills critical to job
success. Career Ready Alabama also offers training to help correct skills
gaps.

As NW-SCC is a licensed WorkKeys service center, Career Readiness
assessments are being made available to the general public.  According to
Wanda Lewis, Director of Testing and Advising, anyone who would like to be
assessed can do so.  "There has been an increase in the number of
individuals being tested. Because of statewide Career Ready advertising, we
are receiving many calls from the general public and referrals from the
Sheffield CareerLink," stated Lewis. 

In addition to assessing NW-SCC occupational and technical students, Youth
Success Program participants are also being assessed.  The Youth Success
Program provides education, leadership development and career exploration
for out-of-school youth ages 16-21.
